Ski Helmet Ground station

My bulky ground station does a great job with all the gizmos and twirly bits which is fine for the serious stuff, but when I just want to take the DJI naza quad out for a quick FPV flight, then all that gubbins is a bit too much hassle. What I need is a lightweight, highly portable, plug it in and go station........ hmmmm......

I don't use Fatsharks because I have modified cinemizers - they are the dogs dangly bits imho (my eternal thanks to 3djim for parting with them) which are perfect for me as a glasses wearer with fully adjustable lenses. So I had to come up with an alternative way of mounting everything.

After searching around, I saw that someone had put quite a bit onto a helmet, brilliant, so I decided to try this out for myself.

I bought a really nice skiing helmet from amazon for £20 shipped - yeah really - it was reduced from £93!

I added my cinemizer goggles (mounted in Bolle mask with special adapter) - damn these things are nice. Strapped on the 5.8 gear and the head tracker. Added a second video feed that runs to my tiny dvr recorder and also ran my power lead that will connect to a 3s lipo.

The whole lot just plonks atop my head, connect the lipo, turn on the DVR and goggles and I'm ready to go. A may look like a complete numpty (that's not unusual anyway) but if this damn rain ever stops I can be out and flying in minutes. The really good bit is that because its designed as a ski helmet, the modified cinemizers can take advantage of the securing clips on the back of the helmet which make them very easy to remove from my eyes and then store securely on the top edge of the helmet and everything stays together.
