Hi
I have bought one of these

http://www.electronicarc.com/catalogo/product_info.php?cPath=43_49_71&products_id=468&osCsid=0a0390a6950e0c7379ac281f6b63a5c2

Tried putting a battery to it and after a bit it really started heating up the wires from the battery and they started to melt!! only a standard 4 cell nicad.

I must have done something wrong and have probably bricked it.  :(

Do you have one?  How do you have it wired?  There is a battery input (+ and -) and a video plug - how can I get it wrong?!*

Coyote

What voltage was you nicad pack ?

It does say only 5 volt with jumper fitted and 12v without

nicad was 4.8v.

Looking at that page though I am wondering now if the thing needs a supply of 12V?

Jumper out to camera is set to 5V and it's the standard camera that came with it (5V).

Confused now?

Edit

it says  Operating voltage: Vcc, 6V (minimum), 12V (typical), 20V (maximum) , It could be power up with 2s or 3s

whats Vcc?

Coyote

VCC is supply voltage, which means you under powered it with 4.8 which maybe why it cooked i would have thought however that it just wouldnt work :(

If the battery wires melted then you had a short circuit somewhere, It looks like the small red connector is your 6-12V in and the larger one to your camera. Vcc is the + side of the circuit.

It's possible you reversed the wires on the camera side? :o

Rick

Hi - just tried it with 6v and it seemed to be ok (not overheat the wires!)

Don't seem to be getting anything out of it but I guess that is just trying to see which channel is which on the thing.  There aren't any instructions with it so I'll have to do some trial and error to match channels - that'll be a job for tomorrow. There are only four switches with up and down options so it can't be that hard to match it with channel 1,2,3 or 4 on the fat sharks - can it?*&!

This is me we're talking about though and I'm not having much luck with this technology!

Less worried that I have knackered it now though.

Rick

thanks Njoro (what is your name by the way?)

the camera plug is one way so can't be put on wrong thankfully - who knows what chaos I'd have caused else?

cheers

Njoro

Hi Rick

Name is Njoro shortened.

What I thought was since the other side is bare wires it's easy to solder the wrong way and I've done it with a brand new VTX! aaaah the smell of cicuit cooking can't beat it.

This is the famous AvionicsRC "fake" ImmersionRC Tx then that Sander gets so annoyed about.  According to him he gets lots of people emailing him saying "Your 500mW has burnt itself out and burnt down my house" to which he replies "Its not my blooming Tx, its a knockoff.  Its badly designed, buy a genuine ImmersionRC next time!".  Of course Lluis, who sells the "fake", doesn't like that much and there have been some heated debates on RCGroups between the two of them.

The funny thing is that when you meet Sander in person he is the nicest guy ever.  I've seen a few people say the same thing about meeting him at L'Aigle this year and last.  He's literally the nicest, friendliest guy you could ever meet.  Anyhow, that's a bit off topic!

Coyote

Yeah ive seen one of the threads where he blows off abot it being a cheap knockoff too

So I bought a pirate one?  Really - shit - does that mean that my fatsharks are knock off too?

Ah sorry - I misread that - so the avionicsrc.com one is a 'copy' not a pirate - if you see what I mean

Coyote

Probably not did you get them from the same place ?
