I'm new to all this.

Here's my TwinStar:





As you can see I basically just plonked everything on there.  I've had about seven flights now and have gradually got everything dialled in, got the RTH and whatnot all working well. 

Unfortunately I have no way to record the live feed as yet, however, I keep getting video glitches.  Nothing too bad and seemingly quite randomly, i.e. not when I've flown a long way or anything (I actually haven't even gone beyond about 300m as yet).  Like I say it isn't too bad but it's enough to dent my confidence a bit.  I understand that there's an extent to which you just need to live with these sorts of things but wondered if perhaps moving the VTx might improve matters.  And if so then where to and what's the best sort of wire to use etc.  It's Immersion/Fat Shark gear on 5.8GHz.  Thankin yous.

The reason for the drop outs is more that likely your Vtx position. The lipo will be blocking a lot from the front with the motors blocking from either side.

Most place the Vtx on the tali instead. As far back as you can but before the elevator is normally the best, although with the Twinstar layout on a wing tip might be better though. The motors would only bloke when they are directly in line with LOS to Rx which would reduce their impact by 50% and the Vtx will be completely clear of all blocking on the return leg of the flights. That`s what I would do in your case :)

Nice looking plane ... I would put some heatshrink or something on the leccy bits just to make sure they don't get wet if you accidentally make an inverted landing.

Looks good, are you on 5.8ghz?? 5.8 has problems with multi-pathing whiuch breaks the signal up which seems to be worse for me when close in, especially if the aircraft is above the receiver.
I'm using the twinstar as well, I cut a slot at the rear top fuselage behind the wing air duct and my transmitter sits in their and I've embedded my fpv cam into the nose of the aircraft. I love mine and with twin NTM2826 motors it's a rocket. I had to dial down the epa on the throttle as it was too much for it. It cruises now at about 1/3 throttle.

Thanks for the comments.  I think I might try putting the VTx out on one of the wings and see how that goes.

You'll probably find it's just the 5.8, it doesn't penetrate very well. when i first started flying fpv i couldn't figure out why i used to get interference at short range when landing from the right until i realised I'm standing next to my groundsation tripod and partially blocking the signal even at close range. If you look at the videos on youtube with people accheiving longe range flights etc it's mostly on 900mhz. Powerful with excellent signal penetration so you can fly behind objects etc. Not allowed in uk though as mobile phones use same band in this country.
