Hi guys
I was wondering what ESC and Motors you guys are using, and what sort of results you are having with the extra fully loaded weight of Gopro's, Stabilizers and FPV nicknacks.

Hi fella,

I'm using the ritewing 65a esc & 1200kv motor supplied with the kit. It works a treat & I can easily get 120mph in a very shallow dive, 110mph flat & level. Run it with x2 4s 3300mah.

Use a fixed APC Electric prop, no point on folding unless you want reduced drag gliding, but I find that if you have the brake on the ESC on the prop will always stop inline of the wing, never broken a fixed prop on mine on a landing.

I run a 9x6 prop on 4s, it pulls about 70a-75a absolute max at launch & about 50-60a max in flight. I can cruise pulling about 10-15a doing 60-70mph!! I did try a 9x7.5 prop but that would pull spikes of 90-100a!! It'll only give you another 10mph top speed, not worth it as it'll drain your packs!

The extra weight of all the fpv gear is not noticeable on mine in flight at all, it's been designed to be flown loaded up! As long as you plan your layout & balance your zed both ways, along it's length & wingtip to wingtip its fine, the only thing you'll notice the heavier it is the harder it'll be to launch. Thats it.

sounds good, I see Simon has this setup for £100.

Yeah, it's pretty good, the quality aint amazing (its no OS motor!!) but it works, it's light & it's fast.

I'll use it til it breaks....

Teamftp

Yep I am using the same as Flyn and it works a treat..... That said the motor has decided to fall apart, the shaft vibrated loose from a grub screww.... LOCTITE!!

I would certainly say get the 4S set up and not 3S. I am running 3S and only get about 85mph flat out and constantly play catch up with Flyn!!!! Damn you slow down

Still manages to pull all the stuff about fine and has lots of power for a hand launch. FLYN IS SCARED OF THESE!!!  ;D ;D
Loads of cool FPV stuff on our Facebook Group, like it today:

Yeah man loctite is wise!

+1 on going 4s, it's good on 3s but great on 4s if it's speed & power want!  :run:

Yeah, I kinda need my fingers for my job, so no fingers = no work. :o
I aint putting my hand anywhere near that 9" spinning 4s powered mincer of death!

Plus I hate throwing an expensive plane like that, it just feels wrong lol

G,...you got a Zeph yet or thinking of one?, as there is a new contender made of epp :)
+airframe motor and esc can be had for just over £100.

Hi bud
yes I have had one hear for a while now, just haven't got around to building it yet, I got a WAYPOINT W-E3014-16 1300Kv motor for it, when I first got it, its the same motor that powers my Skywalker, i'm not that bothered on braking any speed records with my one, the reason for this post, is I have been asked to put one together for someone else and would like to build it with a tried and tested setup, I don't no whether my motor will work until I get it flying.

This will work for you if you not after mad speed,..good little motor and cheap, use 3S batts and 9x6 prop.

:),.... Flyn is a speed junky lol ;)

Flyn

Lol, me never!

I just like being able to fly at 20mph & then punch it all the way to 120mph!

Spookfish

I'm using an NTM Prop Drive Series 35-42A 1250Kv with a Turnigy AE-80A Brushless ESC turning a 9x6 or 9x7 prop with 2x 4S 3300mah packs. Works good for me, pulls 70amps WOT on the 9x7.

i know this is an old post, but what would the best combo be for duration ?

I can get 30mins on slow cruise with the ritewing setup on a 9x6 prop using x2 3300mah 4s packs, but it can (with the right batteries) get to 110 or just over.

For my second build I'm using an OS motor & ESC so will be interesting how they perform.

cheers flyn, seems like going to 4 cell is a downgrade for me then :(
I had 50 mins cruise on 2 x 5000 3cell on a 12x5 prop
so it looks like a new motor or back to 3cell

4s is a downgrade???

The main difference is the capacity!

If I had 10000mah I'd be able to fly for over an hour, but as I only use 6600mah I only get half an hour with a mix of thrashing it about & slow cruising.

4s is anything but a downgrade fella. I've changed over everything I fly to 4s - it's so much better.
