are you using a ply shelf at the back?

I can see some ridges on either side of the inside of the fuselage in the rear compartment, I'm assuming they're for a shelf of some description but I don't think the X6 comes with one.

Yes I am, and it doesn't. Campilot has made one, but it seems a bit narrow, and on mine, it only gives a mm of contact on each side.

Because I want to get a lipo in the back, his plate is too long to allow that.

Should.have time to design a replacement in the next few days :)

Looking at campilot's build video, it's clear that I have a different version of this aircraft.

His has the recesses for the servos on the underside of the wings and an orange motor mount

My wings have the holes for the servos on top of the wings, and a black motor mount

I didn't watch his video that carefully - I presumed he covered over the servo holes.

I think I have the same version as you.

This may in part explain why the rear plate as designed by campilot is too narrow.

Attached are a revised version of my battery bay mount. I've redone the depron layers to give a larger gluing area between them, removed the rearmost battery strap hole (Was inaccessible when in the aircraft), and increased the size of the cutout in the lower depron layer, allowing for a larger plate to be glued in to secure through the airframe to a launch hook.

I've also uploaded the files in STL and IGES :)

I haven't cut these ones yet, but the external dimensions haven't changed, and the last one fitted great, so they should be fine.

Have done a quick design of a electronics bay for the rear of the X6. This one's designed to fit an ET Vector.

Just watched the Team Legit build video... that too has the servo holes on the underside of the wings...

I thought I might have been going a bit mental, so I just popped down to the garage to check... lo and behold I confirmed my thoughts... I have different wings compared to campilot and team legit. I doubt it will cause any issues though

On the up side... my fuselage halves are now glued together :)

I guess HK are selling a newer version? There's at least 2 versions of the X8 going around.

The Team Legit and Campilot kits also come with the ply motor mount.... mine (and I suspect this whole batch of £32 X6s) does not have this ply mount.

I think this is a good thing though... from what people are saying about it being nose heavy, having the motor further back should help with that

Oh, and Miles.... have you figured out which way to angle the motor mount yet? notice it's not flat, so the motor will be either pointing down or up

I think I'll be pointing mine up, just from prior experience with flying wing aircraft

I'm probably going to angle it up, though I am still planning to make my own mount. I'm not sure what angle that'll be at though.

planning any paint job?

I tend to paint my wingtips black... just because it's the only colour paint I've got around lol

other than that... because of how cheap this kit was, I'm not planning any aesthetically pleasing features.... there'll be plenty of reinforcing tape in key areas... may paint the tops of the hatches too... just for gits and shiggles

Nothing fancy - Front canopy cover in black, and maybe the winglets too. I am going to try and lasercut some vinyl stickers though :)

I recut my depron inserts today, can now access both of the battery straps :) Will also be cutting the plywood insert for the base to secure the bungee hook too.


I also completed the design of the V1 motor mount, CAD Attached, pics to come.
