Quick review...

Been flying my Venturi with FPV for the last couple of days. I managed to blow up the RF module and replaced the blown output FET with a partially damaged one from another blown module, so been using that until the new one arrives. Output power was down to a couple of mW, but managed to get up to 1500ft and 800m away before the video got too bad. When the new 100mW module arrives I can do some more testing but seems very good so far.

Also these things are super strong. I was flying up on the hill today and did some low flying, but forgot that hills curve and soon I was out of LOS. The thing crashed (plane is fine fortunately) but sat upside down for about 5 mins. When I found it and saw it upside down I thought oh crap the antenna is broken, but despite crashing at about 50mph and the whole plane sitting on it, the antenna was totally fine and unbent. Really quite impressive, also the coax used is really flexible which helps with this.

Well finally got out on the FX61 with new Skews and 5 turn helical from Simon.

My previous personal best was 2.4km on my Bixler with Homemade helical and cheap chinese Skew. Ran out of Radio range at that point but video was starting to break down.

So today got 4.6km with that skew on the plane and 5 turn on my Fatsharks. Took a bit of practice to get the head tracking sorted but not too bad. Turned around as when changing direction I was losing video. Problem is I have the VTX inside the Fuse with the aerial pointed just out one side of center. Going one way is Pefect but the other the lipos and all other internal bits are blocking the signal from clear line of sight to the ground.

So adding a retract servo to the bottom of the FX the Aerial on it so after launch can deploy the Skew out the bottom of the plane. Very keen to see the results.


With the skews on both ends easily got 2km. Upto 1km was crystal clear.

With my cheap chinese ones I got 300m on one set. (they had different polarization on a matched set.....) and about 1.3 km on my 'Better" cheap chinese ones.

So all in all way happy.
