Hi All.

Well just wanted to post my results with my antennas from Simon.

So best result with Cheap Chinese Skew on Bixler with home made 3 turn helical was 2.4km. Mostly due to radio limit but video was getting to the limit also.

So FX61 with same antennas and Taranis with Frsky L9R about the same.

Simons Skew and 5 turn helical 4km with antenna sticking out the canopy on the top of plane. Ok on way out but totally lost signal when turning because lipos etc blocking LOS.

So added a servo retract to the bottom with the Skew on it. Moved my RX aerials to a better place and got 8km today.
Here is the video which doesnt really do it justice. The unstable vertical video was due to bad connection between the Fatshark goggles and the PC with very old TV capture card. Also was recorded in flash so 25 min footage was only about 170 meg so must have been really low bit rate. Also then had to convert to MPEG4 and uploaded to youtube.
Was totally dissapointed with the video capture as the real footage through the goggles was excellent. Was getting a bit foggy at 8km but still very stable unlike the video.
Going to order a new mini DVR and also looking at a antenna tracker. This was all taken with the 5 turn helical straight onto the fatsharks. So from time to time I was moving my head around to try and find the best location. With a decent ground station 10km would be easy.
All in all very happy.

For sure keen to push on with what I have.
The cheats way out is to get a 433 mhz radio and 1.2g or similar video TX but its kinda fun seeing how far you can get the most basic stuff to go. Teaches you a lot about setup trying to get the most out of the minimum.
To get this far on standard 2.4g radio and 5.8g Video at only 600mw micro VTX I am way impressed. A tracker for sure would help. I had my head wobbling around plenty at times to find the sweet spot.
For sure the biggest improvement was having the aerial on the retract under the plane. So it has a totally clear 360 deg view of the ground station.
