Couple questions. How do you tune these antennas? I would possibly be after a set for 2.4GHz, but I have an RF signal gen and spectrum analyser so I could build antennas and tune them myself, but for £13 it would save me a lot of time and hassle provided they are good.

If you have the gear to tune and make yourself then if I were you I'd relish at the challenge to build my self
Mine were tuned over in the USA on an anritsu analyzer costing $10000
Many hours and antennas were made to get the dimensions right even down to the different type of epoxy on the feed point
So I think they are pretty good
Btw, 2.4 skews are £18

Well you've clearly spent a lot of time developing them and people say they are good, so I'll order a pair of skews next week.

Out of interest, what cable do you use? And is SMA connectors fine (not RP)? I tend to use RG400 for these applications. Also, can you supply them in a shroud, like spironets etc?

I could certainly build them myself and I have done in the past but it's quite a bit of hassle, and 36 quid for a good pair of antennas is not bad. Oh and interesting that you mentioned the epoxy. I've always thought that the dielectric constant of the epoxy (or whatever else people gunk on there) would have a noticeable effect at these frequencies. Not at all surprising, and good to see that someone has actually taken this into account :)

Yeah the epoxy really took us by surprise, moving the frequency by as much as 50mhz,
I ended up using a low heat glue stick now, seemed to show pretty good results
The coax I use is CLF200, rated up to 16Ghz and any connector is not a problem, I cant supply a cover for them as I think it'll be too big and dont have them anyway, the wire I use on the lower frequency is mig welding wire, so that aint bending anytime soon, I do however use a cover on the 5.8's if the customer wants them and in fact tell the customer that if it's for a 250 they must have have one  :o

A big problem with epoxy is that is usually has air bubbles in it from the mixing, so boom you now have a nice air capacitor between your lobes.

Good news about the connector and coax, and I'll take your word for the durability. I'll build some boxes to keep them in when not in use anyway. I'm always careful with this as a few years ago I spent about 100 euros for a clover and skew set that was tuned to my exact frequency. They worked brilliantly and after one flight a dog sat on them...

Thank you Simon by the way. 5 turn heli and skew antenna for 5,8 and skews for 1,3 have arrived and are really performing with great results.  :D

Hi mate
If I were you I'd go for a 3turn on the LCD along with one of my skews
That will work great, however I can't guarantee the integrity of the cheap Chinese antenna on the 250, if the description is correct then you should be fine, however, the Chinese are a bit hit and miss with the truth on certain goodies
Hope this helps
I'll pm you my email now

Hard to say really, currykitten got 5k the other day on one of my 3 turns and skew, through cloud as well, vid on forum
So a 5 with about 2dBi more gain is gonna get you further but be aware the beam will be narrower by about 10 degrees
Cheers

What are the lead times for a pair of 2.4 skews btw?
