screen or goggles?

I just couldn't do FPV without my sharks
Love the feeling of Immersion and the feeling of actually being on the plane
I do however feel for people who cant wear them, shame really, but a screen is a great way as well to get into the hobby, but just not for me

Well guys i have took the plunge and ordered some very cheap goggles from hk! they are the turnigy £60 including shiping and customs etc! i will see how they go and if i prefer fpv with goggles then i will invest in some with all the bells and whistles and then the cheapos can be used for friends to use! prob wont be able to review them for a while as its known that hk aren,t the fast shipping company! :flying:

Well guys i have took the plunge and ordered some very cheap goggles from hk! they are the turnigy £60 including shiping and customs etc!

I think these have very low resolution (320x240) and I fear they may put you off from using goggles. I have tried a few different goggles:

1. Headplay http://www.headplay.com/
Pros: Offer by far the best quality image from all googles I tried. The whole screen is very clear and OSD text clearly visible even at the low corners.
Cons: The position of the googles compared to eyes is a little bit critical. Two adjustments provided for each eye which you can set and forget but you have to do it all over again if someone else uses the googles. The googles come with a huge control box called "The Liberator", a name that I can only account to sarcasm.

2. VR1400 http://www.firstpersonview.co.uk/video-goggles/vr1400-vr-headset-640x480
Pros: Reasonably good image. The OSD text is reasonably easy to read, perhaps with a little guessing at the two low corners. The control box is very small and uses standard Nokia style batteries. There is no need (and no controls) to adjust the optics, it worked fine for everyone of the 3-4 people that tried mine.
Cons: There is a bit of shading in the image as if the red, green and blue do not overlap correctly.

3. Fat Shark RCV922 http://www.gowiththeshark.com/
Pros: Built in receiver option which could be very handy for close range FPV.
Cons: They don't seem to fit comfortably on my face and on any of the other people that tried them. They seem ok for the first 2-3 minutes but become tiring after a while. When the strap is tight too much pressure is applied to my eye sockets, when the trap is loosened the goggles tilt down and the image is hard to see. Positioning of the googles is critical to see the image correctly. The image and build quality is not as good as the VR1400.  The OSD text is very blurred at the corners and near impossible to read.

I like the Headplay image quality the most but "The Liberator" has put me off and I will probably be using the VR1400. I will try the Headplay in flight and I may review my decision then. If the big box does no bother you the Headplay is the one to go. You need to download the FPV firmware and update the goggles so you don't get a blue screen when the video has interference.

I am for goggles. I have tried a 7" flat screen TV but in bright light there are too many reflections. I suppose I could build a 'box' around it as others have done.
My first introduction into FPV with my mates system were goggles. After this flight all I could say was "WOW", and had to get involved.
My goggles at present are EVG920. I have just ordered the HK fatsharks, so I might sell the EVG920 or keep them as backups or for other person use.

Goggles for me are not the road i want to take in fpv! i may be wrong but i feel they could be a pain getting them on and off, stopping them slipping off ya head, looking like the guy off star trek etc etc.... so im going to TRY to put a screen in my van for now and wondered if anyone knows of a good cheap one?  :+

As I have already said in an earlier post, I prefer goggles.
I got my Fatsharks from HK yesterday, 8 days from ordering. I bought the middle of the range without wifi. I have hooked them up to my system and they seem Ok. But have not flown them yet. I like the idea of brightness and contrast adjustment, and also the adjustment for the eye pieces. Also when wearing there is no external light leak as they fit great.
Note: There is a 2 year warranty on them.

How are the Turnigy goggles? everyone I've seen report on them have been quite happy with them even with the low res screens.

I'm tempted as I simply cant do 200 nickers on a pair of gogs.

I'd like some gogs so that I can be more mobile, I'm quite happy flying through my 17" screen rigged in the back of my car (no reflection) but it does mean I have to be with the car so no flying off remote beaches or the like :(

Ok so there not going to give you the best image, but i think there is enough image quality to make out lots of detail and as long as you use a decent camera with fast auto brightness i think these are a winner! :thumbsup: For me they are a bit light, when you put them on they will keep slipping off your nose so will need to be converted to ski or diving mask to block light and stay on!    They come with earphones and a nice case!  And there really really cheap!  :coolsunnies:

Ive tested them on the ground and had no black out with static! :shrug: i will test them in the air as soon as the weather gets better and let you know what happens! :retard:
