funjet for fpv advice wanted

hi guys

i have loads of fpv stuff but am thinking a funjet would be fun.

i'm looking for advice on tried and tested setups, i'm thinking 3s or 4s, so it's not too heavy.  i want  bit of range, not something that does 3 passes and the battery is cooked.

toying with mini apm but might just go without a flight controller.

so, any help with servos, motor, props, esc's and battery choices would be much appreciated.

Hi,

I put together a funjet for fpv  last year and it has been really good fun to fly.

My layout is as follows, I'll try and find out what the servos are. they were metal geared that's all I remember.

I stuck most of the components on a length of very heavy duty 3m velcro that ran the lenghth of the fus.  That way it was easier to adjust for
balance and no added weight was needed

Performance seems ok  max's out at about 192kph   . I'd like to have a go at a 5 or 6s .  Have a turnigy 36-48 1450 to one side which I read is a good motor for some extreme speed.  Think its about 1600w on 6s.

Is it me or is your prop on backwards? Looks like the trailing edge (sharp one) is facing forward...

prop does look back to front but maybe it's the photo.

what sort of flight times do you get assuming you're not full throttle from the get go?

Yes Sheldon it definately is !  :D   I think I shoved it on quickly for the sake of the build photo last year.

It's on the other way round at the moment..... I just checked  7x6 to the front ! I always take on and off  or leave loose just in case motor had a random power up whilst setting up ap ( like my MFD Ap has a tendancy to do !)

Having said that it's up on bricks at the moment with an electrical problem.  Have spent two night trying to sort, I may be begging for thoughts on here
if I can't sort it tonight.

Hi,

I've only really thrashed it, the temptation to do anything else is just too great  ;D  Then I get about 6 or seven minutes I think.  Having said that, 6 or 7 minutes seems plenty at full speed.

Maybe a couple of mins more plodding around.

It does seem to be happy flying at relatively low speeds though and glides really quite well with power off.

I just resurrected my funjet ( the one on the header) I put in a teleflyosd from MFD, and a new motor from HK 2836 2700kv motor, 550 watts on 3S with a 6x4 prop, and a 60 amp esc, hope to re maiden her on Saturday, the boscam BOS600 gets mighty warm though so might be a very short flight

at first glance there would appear to be plenty of room inside the fuselage of a funjet for all the gear you would need.... however, most (if not all) of this space is fore of the CG point, making it very tricky to get it all installed just right.

the idea of having velcro running the length of the fuselage floor is the ideal solution, but you may still find you will need to place a lot of your equipment very close to eachother near or at the rear of the cavity.

an ideal starter setup would be something along the lines of a 2200kv motor with a high amp ESC. You can run it on 3S perfectly fine on a stiff 6x4 prop and it will still be fast and give you satisfactory flight times. Pop a 5x5 or 4.5x4.5 prop on the motor and supply it with 4S and you have a pocket rocket.

Only start getting silly when you've come to terms with it in a relatively speedy configuration... certainly don't go straight to 5S or 6S with EDF inrunners

I just made a mount for the canopy of my funjet. I made the bird last year and thought I'd gone for an original scheme and then logged on here and it is almost identical to the one on the banner. Talk about subliminal messaging...

As I now have a 3d printer I thought I'd make a nice mount for my möbius and a small aomway vtx I have. I am also running an osd with the gps out in the wing.

I may try a 6100mah for long flights but for a normal blast I'll run the red 2900 3s.

I'll touch up the paintwork once I have it all finalised I balanced it on the mould marks and not the balance pips so it was massively tail heavy on its maiden and went in pretty hard.
