In one of my slowest ever builds I've finally got mine ready to maiden



I'm finding the balance is very slight back from where it's supposed to be, but it sounds like it might be anyway reading through - would need a tiny bit of weight to get that bang on anyway.

Not maidening today as it's bloody freezing and keeps raining and stuff :(

Mine balances at about 135mm so iam adding a little weight just to bring forward and make it safer for a wing newb like me, just got an aerial support to fit and balance it out and its ready to go, will post some pics later

Well heres my effort of a first wing build, sporting my tested diy aerial, ive placed everything as far forward as possible to help with the cg, changed the elevon links to a z bend, all the fpv wiring is stored in the void under the camera and is capped off with an offcut of black epp from the box, the aerial post is offcut of the motor mount,ive enjoyed build this wing and iam impressed with the elevon hindges uhu por, ive added a splash of colour as im not a fan of foamy planes, auw is 250 grams with around 5 grams up front to balance it out, fpv gear is banggood 25mw cheapy stuff with the camera pointing slightly down as light reaction isnt very good however my eyes seem to prefer the picture better than my fatshark image, going to change parkfly reciver to a full range one once i start flying the wing in fpv but as iam new to wings its los for now

So Rob and I flew our Hornets this morning around the footy field, I was surprised how easy it was to spot the Hornet from the air, I guess because flying in such a small area helps.

It's a shame the weather was so gloomy, I hope to get some much better footage when the weather brightens.

Maidened mine today, way to windy but i thought i'd at least test glide it and all went ok, so having never flown or even launched a wing before i thought well iam here might aswell give it ago, a gentle toss at half throttle saw it away nicely and i did a couple circuits then nosed in when i lost orientation, bugger as i was trying to find it in the long grass and the result is no damage what so ever,two things i noticed though were aileron control was twitchy while elevator was the opposite back to test gliding and removed 5 grams of weight and now the cg  is at 135mm it floats better on the glide,so another flight and better this time and iam also getting more confidence flying it,would still like more elevator authority but iam struggling with setting as when i up the elevator travel only one elevon gets the travel hmmm, did i say it was my first wing
Best bit though after 6 mins of flight and 20 mins of faffing about it drew 300 mah out of the flight pack

No both elevons move but only the elevator servo gets the extra movement the aileron servo stays at normal rate, iam using a dx6i

Laugh all you want but its served me perfectly for the last 5 years on all wing types no glitches losses or crash's isnt that the sign of a good radio
Anyway sorted the elevon mix

Got mine dialled in nicely now, what a giggle these hornet wings are, it's rubust enough to enjoy while learning to fpv and flys really well in the wind and consumes very little battery power, suits where i fly perfectly, i built mine for slow and low proximity flying and it seems perfect,just need a calm day to fpv it

Been dialing mine in over the last few days of sun & calm weather. Found I needed loads more control surface throw than the instructions suggested. Still lethargic in roll.

Great fun FPV though😃😃

Downside being my goggles clearly need updating. Is there anywhere in the north east where you can have a demo of the goggles out there??
