I believe so....he's flying it from Tritton road roundabout.... basically he's an idiot....and if they found out who he is....they WILL prosecute him! :/

rob.thomson

And fair enough.

Choose where you fly carefully.   Don't be a dick.

Unfortunately in this game, the guys who are seriously into the hobby seldom do stupid things.... but do stand the most to lose

Saw this last week... what a nob

he even states in the video "couldn't see drone most of the time"

who did he think he would be impressing by posting this video on the internet?

I know that area well, lived there for some years

Cockney Boy

It makes me laugh that the BBC have the nerve to publish this, when they are equally as guilty of some dodgy flying.....Your man does need flogging with a stocking filled with his own excrement as he was doing some very stupid flying.

FPVSteve

Sorry but all the people on here complaining about this guy - you've never flown out of LoS before in your life have you? Never over a building? Theres no distinction between "a building" and "a city" in the ANO so technically what he's doing is no more illegal than what we do almost every flight. Doesn't matter if you do it out in the sticks, its still illegal in a court of law.

Come on - this guy is one of us, I'm not sure I'm comfortable with his face being plastered all over  :censored:  BBC News like he's a rapist or something. It's getting ridiculous. Would YOU like it?

Gundummy

your right Steve ... but discretion is the word...

where did you get that silly clip on beard from?

The flight was a stupid idea.

Posting the video on Youtube was even worse.

But neither of these points were as bad as the reporting of the incident:-

I quote,
"The fact that he was flying so high and close to Waddington and Scampton is incredibly irresponsible," added Mr Roberts."

Gosh, it's a wonder the military were able to avoid the drone.
You learn something new every day.

Mr roberts works in Costa Coffee btw  :D

he didn't just fly out of LOS and over "a building" he flew 2km over a CITY CENTRE.

technicalities aside.... there's a massive difference between flying over the odd farmhouse/barn and flying over Lincoln city, and you know it.

lol, Waddington is over 5km from this flight, and Scampton is over 8km away. This flight was far enough away from both aerodromes under current legislation... shame about the rest of what he was doing.

I do feel like a moron, harking on about legalities... I'm the last person to talk really, but theres doing 80 on a motorway in good conditions with no-one around... then there's doing 100, outside a school, in the rain, without your glasses on, under the influence, without insurance.

keukpa

BlueFlyer : actually.... the uni and city centre are in Scampton's space... the red arrows fly over there.... south of the uni he'd be out of Scampton. ... but north is in. :/

BlueFlyer

Yup, just looked again, my mistake. Close though.

Well, just my 2p worth as a noob..
I have a 450 quad with GPS & RTH & Failsafe all working correctly.
I have flown over the odd house in the country and a few people.
But I would not dare to make that flight.
Balance of probabilities - my quad has plummeted twice from failures that were 'not my fault' - one motor failed mid-flight, fractured winding, and one ESC failed mid-flight. No lack of maintenance there - all looked good before takeoff.
A hex or Octal 8 blade would be safer I'm sure.
There's always a single weak point, unless you do a very good FMEA - what if the XT60 from your main LiPo fails - game over - no RTH will help then..
Just thinking out loud..

FPVSteve

Yea but as I said, technically (as in if the law is applied) there is no difference between city flying and flying out of LOS in the countryside. Both illegal.

I dunno, i'm tired of this crap - it used to be about flying planes and having fun, now you end up on BBC news for doing what quite a few on here used to do when it was "cool" and noone said a thing. Meh.

The guy is probably sound as a pound and just likes his aircraft, just like any of us...
