All I know is I'm sick of the two-faced crap, the continuous changing of opinions and stuff in this community - it's the reason I left the modified car scene back in the day as well :laugh:

No one here is being two-faced, no one (or at least I'm not) saying don't do it....just saying don't be a complete dick about it..... The fact no one I know knows him tells me he's not into FPV like we are as he's not about on any of the groups, people can just 'Buy and fly' they don't care if it gets banned.

So, for some idiot who it appears doesn't give a shit, is already ruining it for others.

I don't care what people do....but take a second, think about it before you start putting it on YouTube.... If you robbed a bank, you wouldn't put the body cam footage on YouTube would you?

That sucks if you're qualified and demonstrably safe, yet still can't fly.

BUT this is why I was pushing for "fully legal videos" on here - it wouldn't have stopped the chat about illegal stuff, but moderation would have stopped the promotion of illegal activity (i.e. videos). That way, we as FPVUK members become "the good guys" and may have had some associative benefits because of it.

Anyway sod it - this is like 4 years ago, but we once had control over where we were heading - now it's down to the Daily Mail. Sad really, since FPVUK was the trailblazer back in the day, could have made a difference.

Times change Steve. And so do opinions. There's nothing two faced about coming to the realisation that I may have to stop participating in a hobby I've spent thousands of  pounds on over the years, and adjusting my attitude towards it.

You want honesty? The real reason I'm annoyed at the mere existence if this incident is because it's yet another nail in the coffin, another bit of the mounting pile of evidence that will eventually be used to either ban my hobby completely or to control it so closely that I will have no choice but to stop doing it completely.

I'm not on a high horse of legality regarding his flying either..  I'm simply pointing out that it was a bloody stupid thing to do, regardless of the legalities.

I agree with BlueFlyer on this....what he's just said is exactly it.

I remember the discussion about 4 years ago Steve, when we were deciding about which way FPVHub should go, and I was on the side of 'free and open' but this was before you could go into a shop and buy and fly.

Times and opinions DO change, and if we want to ensure we aren't screwed,  have to be more careful now.... I know from first hand knowledge that the CAA are looking at Ireland. We might have to register EVERY 'drone' we own, I have over 20 of the feckers..... I'd never be able to afford that....

The problem is certain organisations are looking for a reason to legislate and quite frankly.....make money from us!

Just my 2 cents, kind of similar to BlueFlyer's;

There is a difference between being illegal, and being illegal and stupid, heck, 99.9% of FPV flight are illegal base on just the frequency and power alone.

For example, doing 80 or 90 MPH on the Motorway is illegal, but id say the majority of cars are doing more that 70, so its illegal, but as long as conditions are ok I would not say it was stupid.
If you did 40 in a 30 MPH zone, you are illegal AND stupid, and would cause a lot more uproar then people on the motorway.

If you want to do 10km over farmland or moors, as long as your not ridiculously high, not following a busy road, and have a decent way of navigating, I think your fine, but don't go skimming the gantries of the M1 or hover over a city centre, you are illegal and an idiot.

While videos appearing on YT and the like end up on the BBC for being just illegal, the '2 face'-ness seen in the community is mostly seen based on what people deem as stupid or not, some people may be ok with 10km over moors and farmland, but see doing 1km over a village stupid and thus will get all uppity and quote legal figures to pack their opinion

Sometimes flying illegally is actually more sensible, a lot of the rules and recommendations for BMFA Clubs have the pilots closer to cars and other people (IE other pilots) then the rules for 'Drones', this means that people flying different kinds of RC could end up spread so far apart they can not communicate in case of an emergency, whether its people telling the drone pilot of other aircraft, or the drone pilot telling others he is having issues with his aircraft so people can keep an eye out and be alert enough to move should the aircraft come their way.

Let's be honest, if your flying at 399 feet and the closest person is 51 meters away, if you have an issue the probability of the aircraft hitting a person has got to be the roughly the same wherever they are stood for quite a large radius around where the issue first occurred. Do I fly if there are kids in the same park I want to fly in? No, Stupid. Do I fly if there is another pilot stood next to me? of course, its a club!

Keukpa - you say you were on the "free and open" side of things but that's the problem - this situation was ALWAYS on the cards, I'm surprised people didn't see it back then.
