Anyone in Lincoln know this man??

It *was* cool. It wasn't legal though was it. Maybe I'm not being clear enough:

There are two scenarios:
One - the forum hosts only legal videos, illegal videos are pulled up and removed
Two - the forum hosts illegal videos, videos are left as they are.

One ... people didn't want this for some reason (maybe because everyone is operating illegally)
Two ... people wanted this, but we get pissing and moaning threads about dangerous people anyway

So here we are all operating illegally yet supporting the victimisation of a pilot who does exactly what some of us do. WTF?

keukpa

I think you've entirely missed the point Steve.

I posted this just cos I thought it was an interesting discussion point. I never said he shouldn't be flying where he was.

The 'point' is of course most of us use higher power VTX, frequencies we shouldn't, etc. but we don't go getting the hobby a bad rep by getting it on BBC news because we were stupid enough to put it on the interwebz.

Well, you guys did post pics of the wing retrieval from the cathedral. Arguably that's the same as posting a video of a dodgy flight - it still makes the hobby look bad if someone is inclined enough to make it a big deal (perhaps because of personal animosity).

All I'm saying is people don't seem to know what they want on here, and we should be careful of helping to victimise some guy who's done nothing that some of us don't do ourselves...

BlueFlyer

Saying someone is stupid for doing something stupid isn't victimisation.

Gundummy

ok we've all done it... this guy is being "victimised" because he's stupid enough to film himself... and stupid enough to end up on the BBC and Police wanted list lol

this is like "Britains dumbest criminals" (or drone flyers!)

just to add ... my misses is watching XFactor recorded from last night - the drone footage from where the 2 non-reflective singers visit Newcastle shows a face down recording flying over the Tyne Bridge while full of traffic amongst other things...

I guess some professionals are idiots to!

Many of the comments so far make a lot of sense and its a great thing that we are in a democracy and a certain amount of free speech is allowed

But here is the thing; in society there are rules a.k.a. Laws. These rules are generally for the common good of the population and are designed provide a safe and healthy environment for the population to exist and to protect the population from danger.  Without these laws or statutes in place there would be an  anarchic society where the weak suffer and the strong rule.  An "I want it so I will take it, I'm alright Jack" society. Civilization is only skin deep: witness the Rwanda genocide.

If I wanted to live in a society like that I would emigrate to Somalia or Syria or any one of a number of "Wild West" environments where there is zero law and order.    But I choose to live in a relatively safe and controlled country, albeit over populated, and this means that there has to be laws to protect the weak from the strong or put another way, sensible people from idiots.

Do I agree with all legislation? No of course not!
Do I want a 100% Nanny State? No of course not!
Do I like open borders and scroungers? No of course not!

But neither do I want twats flying so called "drones" over my Town center or in the underground or being loaded up with fireworks or plastic bags full of petrol or worse and flown over a school play ground.

2 wrongs don't make a right and many model flyers of all disciplines break the rules and laws on a regular basis.  Many people break the law on a daily basis, that's their choice, but they also choose to take the risk of being caught and paying the penalty.

If a total ban on the sale and use of equipment for making and flying  UASV's meant that the other disciplines of the hobby where protected then thats what I would support.  And in my opinion that is what will happen if there is a major incident involving a UASV in the UK.

A total ban on the sale and importation of designated equipment that could be used to build and operate a USAV, including RTF planes and multis that are not operated by a fully qualified, registered and regulated operation or individual.  In conjunction with a draconian fine and possible incarceration.  Very much the same as current shotgun and firearm legislation and licensing which prevents the import sale and use of such.

Of course someone will point out that guns still get into the country and people get shot.  I will reply to that by asking if anyone has cut thereself on a modelling knife?

Lastly a quick tip to anyone interested in reading the above: If you are dead set on breaking the law and acting like a twat dont be so stupid as to publish it on forum's such as this and You Tube that are being monitored by the CAA etc etc.

They got worse that that in 2013 on the Xfactor with "professional" drones. Not only did they fly over the crowd, but lost control and crashed into the crowd as well !  And it wasn't a small, light DJI Phantom either.

I have to admit reading this .. people are passionate about their hobby!

For the first time Ian - you are talking absolute rubbish.

The commercial pilot in 2013 had done extensive risk assessment before the day of filming the queuing crowds. From his analysis his planned and actual flight was a path line along a line over the RIVER.
On the actual recording flight, there was a mechanical failure with a wiring connection to his GPS (if I remember correctly). The quad went out of control and crashed into the river. At no time, despite how it looks in the video, did he fly above the crowds.
The CAA were directly involved in the investigation to the point of paying for divers to recover the octo from the river bed for fault examination.
The discovered fault resulted in the CAA issuing a notice to all BNUC-S qualified pilots to stress the need to pre-flight check their craft for faults.
Because of the 'good' risk assessment done and the 'safest' flight path decided upon - the CAA took no action against the professional pilot.

If that is correct I stand corrected then :)

I assure you it is correct. A few months after the incident I took Part I of BNUC-S with the then only approved teaching body, EuroUSC at their base near Heathrow. The lead teacher, Andre Clot, has been involved in numerous discussions with CAA over the development of suitable rules and regs for U / RPAS's.
He was called in by the CAA to help with the investigation of this incident and we discussed the details and ramifications at length.

Gundummy suggests I have been a "bit harsh" with you. I am sorry he thinks that but, as I have the utmost respect for your (Coyote's) in depth knowledge of our hobby + appreciation of the time and effort you continue to put in to support the workings of this Forum, together with your unfailing generosity of giving advice to everyone from newbs to experts, I was sincerely shocked to read something so wrong.

It's bad enough with peeps like this stupid Lincoln man bringing our interests into disrepute - but to have the 'oracle' - Coyote get it wrong (admittedly just once) - well, it took my breath away.

All done & finished now!

I wouldn't call Coyote an Oracle ..... more an expert on blue smoke ...  ;D

To be fair to Coyote, there's normally so much misinformation in different places it's sometimes difficult to understand what actually happens.
