Has anyone used a 1280mhz Patch antenna hooked up to a Lawmate VRX....and then relayed the signal via a low power 5.8VTX.??

So, with the Patch on a magnetic mount on say a car roof, with the 1280 VRX and a low power 5.8G VTX to relay the signal on to goggles or a Screen??? Thus keeping the UHF transmission well away from the 1.2G receiver..and the Patch mounted high up on what could be a useful ground plane????

Anyone tried this?....and what, if any are the pitfalls?

I do this every time I go out flying :)

Except not with a patch, just a stock linear antenna

I have a little box with a 1.2 vrx and a 5.8 vtx mounted on a tripod... If we're flying at the hill, I have the tripod up on the peak and I sit a bit further down, a bit more sheltered down the hill (about 10-20m away). If we're flying at the field, I have this tripod out in the middle of the field and I go sit back by my car, again about 10-20m away.

My dominator V2 goggles pick up the relayed video feed perfectly and record it on the built in DVR.

best thing is that the EzUHF antenna is no-where near my VRX antenna and the VRX has a clearer "view" of it's surroundings.

Hi Blue,

That sounds like a nice set-up...pleased you have tried it already......Sooo, I have a few questions if you have time...How do I wire the Video signal from my LawMate VRX into my 25mw Immersion VTX? And do I need to worry about placement of the 5.8g VTX with respect to the 1.2G antenna?
Is the added complication worth it, and have you seen improvements doing it this way?

Cheers m8...:)

I have this cable

http://www.readymaderc.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=11_66_503&products_id=414

I have the 1.2 VRX antenna coming out the top of the box and the 5.8 VTX at the bottom of the box.

For me, the only "complication" was building it in the first place... and even then it was really straight forward. If anything, now that it's built... having JUST my goggles on and not being tethered to a tripod is LESS complicated than it was before

Hi Blue,

Yes, I can see how in a way, it's made it simpler, it would for me too I think.....That lead looks like a Power / Audio / Video one if I'm not mistaken?

For me, I would only need to feed the Video output from my 1.2 VRX into my Immersion VTX, presumably as if it was a Camera Video feed signal?
I see this cable is screened, so what is the screen ground attached to?  Did you use an Immersion 5.8G VTX?
One of your excellent wiring diagrams would be very much appreciated M8.....:)

it's not power, audio, video... it's Video, Left Audio, Right Audio.

The VTX is powered from the quadcopter PDB, to which a 3S LiPo is connected via XT60.

I use the yellow phono plug... in fact I stripped off the other two plugs as they're not needed.

the "screen" is simply the ground.

Thanks Blue,

I was a bit confused about which 5.8G VTX you were using...so I got my 25mw one out when I realised the 5 pin connector was an Immersion VTX type.

So, I just need the centre signal Video Pin of the yellow? RCA and then run the Video ground down the braided shield if I'm not mistaken? The 5vdc supply pin is of course empty...I think I see it now....Is it really that easy?
Oh, what VRX Brand are you using..? will I be ok on the Impedance front with my LawMate?

Cheers Bud..:)

Hi Blue,

Thanks for the VTX relay wiring m8, like yourself, I will have the DVR on my 5.8G Monitor. I know it may be better to take the DVR recording directly from the 1.2G source, but it should still work ok.
Besides, this way, if I'm flying 5.8G, I can just take the Diversity Monitor and DVR, a much lighter solution.

My hope is to get better 1280 Video reception with the Patch sitting higher up and well away from my EZUHF Transmitter...I'm pretty lucky being the only person doing FPV in my Club.
Next move is to build the 1.2G Patch onto a new separate GS with the 5.8G Relay....:)...Need to find a vacuum or Mag Base now..

I'd be interested to know how you get on with this, and if the image is degraded at all.
I've been trying to get this to work with an RMRC 1.2G VRX and my Fatshark goggles, and the top of the image is unstable and jittery, so I can't read the OSD. Picture is perfect if I use a cable to the goggles, and I've tried several known good 5.8 VTX, and I always get a jittering picture. I'm stumped TBH.
Hopefully yours will work fine  :)

I'm going to be using a LawMate VRX....My concern is having an SR771 banging out UHF right next to my 1.2G receiver...I think Blueflyer is using his goggles wirelessly, like yourself....I cant use goggles, I will be using a Monitor..
Gonna test it first anyway, should not take too long...:)

For those who want to use goggles without a tether cable, the attraction is obvious.

But what about the benefits of not having your UHF link walking all over the 1280mhz Video receiver?

and does the 5.8G TX affect the Video reception?.......(I will be using a 25mw vtx)

GD?

I've been "getting on" with this for ages now, it's my default configuration at the field.

Only used my setup a couple of times at the back-end of last year, but it seems to work well.

Using a 25mw repeater and one of those silver box digital display 1.2 vrx..
