Couldn't the mountain have done the same number on your control signal as it did the video, though?

Coyote

It would of, even 433 can't go behind solid earth. As soon as you went out of Los control would have been lost too.

Yes the L9R,video was 5.8 though and as soon as went down the valley my video went completely as you would expect.
I should have climbed and banked but instinctively grabbed rth which was only set at 150m,probably causing it to dive and bank right into the mountain.
Pilot error,lesson learnt.

If only rth had decided to turn left rather than right...?...I suppose its shortest path...?...Yeah, rth height...Id leave that alone, why lose height if you are trying to get home..?...I saw one guy had his elevator degrees down set wrong and it near did a vertical dive when he hit rth...lol..

On the Tornado you just set an altitude for RTH, it doesn't have the option to stay at the same height you are currently at. I've seen quite a few people get bitten by that when flying in hilly areas!

Lola

It's a shame but nice to see you got another one 😀.

Regarding RTL, the apm and pix do the same, you set a height and it sticks to it so you have to be careful.

I think back when I had a Cyclops Storm you could set the rth height but you could also set it to not descend if you went above that height.

I saw someone ago they were supposed to be bringing out a mountain mode for the vector which I (think) was going to do soon something similar..

The MFD AP is nearly the same, you can set it to keep the altitude it's at when it failsafes until it reaches 500m from home.

One thing you can do with the Tornado OSD (and others) is to set your failsafe to go into AutoPilot mode instead of RTH - then if you set the waypoints to avoid obstacles you can make the plane fly back on a predefined route, descending or ascending as needed by setting the altitude restriction for each waypoint.

Assuming you set the first waypoint higher than any structure you might encounter, you should be golden depending on battery life remaining of course.

Obviously requires forward planning but might be worthwhile if you regularly fly in hilly areas (or even to just get around and over some pylons on the way back).

Not 101% sure but I thought on the latest Tornado software you could set RTH to either a set return alt or stay at current alt the RTH.

Vector has 2 rth altitudes. 1 which it goes to immediately, the 2nd which it drops to when within x metres of home. You also tell it what x metres is
That's been there for ages and not mountain mode

Just looked at my newly arrived Mini Talon......First impressions..?.....It's got loads of room inside and AP install should be a breeze...

I have some other stuff on the go though....dont know when I'll get to it.....:)

That's the same prop I use, and on 4s.  The only difference is that I'm pulling about 19a full throttle.  Plenty of power for cruising about....

Finally got my mini Talon fitting nicely and boy did she fly nice once sorted.

It was hard editing the video down to a reasonable length and probably still too long for the average YouTube attention span but here it is youtu.be/PkLIO--fydg

Nice bit of flying dp, looks like you were having a ball  ;)
Got back from hols and went for a play with the Talon first thing this morning as I'm not back at work yet, third flight and I felt back in the groove again so I took the Talon out a little bit, turned back only because I got where I was aiming for but still had battery and VTX was solid. This looks like it could beat my PB if all goes well  :overexcited:
