Sounds like your maiden went very well aside from the revving motor.

I did have a very similar problem a few weeks ago where the motor pulsed.  In the end it was due to the battery and the problem didn't reoccur once I swapped the battery.  Intermittent faults are a real pain, so I hope you can resolve it.

I'm going to see if I can maiden tomorrow evening if I can get all my electrics tidied up inside.  I'm going to fly with a cyclops as my Vector resides in my skywalker at the moment. My just hope I can adjust to the higher speed.

Well, I have done the maiden flight and.....  It still looks like a plane!!! Woohoooo.

I did have a few issues as it raced away at Mach 2 which is not surprising on a maiden. (I managed to get upto 108kph over the ground  - wind assisted).
I am using the Cyclops Storm and it was almost uncontrollable to start - almost as if it was tail heavy (but it wasn't), and very unstable.  When I throttled back it was better, but a bit hairy.
On reflection, I think my control rods need placing on the outer holes of the horns so they become less sensitive to servo movements and my gains may have been too high.
Also, if I turned heading hold off, would that help at all?
Any other suggestions or comments gratefully received.

Heading hold will constantly be trying to keep your plane going in a straight line, not keeping the wings level... they're not the same thing unfortunately lol.
That's probably it.
I was lying awake last night thinking it all through and I thought that maybe some planes turn quicker on aileron rolls than others.  So it would stand to reason that heading holds may not work brilliantly on some planes.    I will try again with it switched off and report back the results.

Did you use a vtail mixer with your storm?

Yes I do.  The tx is set up as if it were a normal 4 channel Rudder, throttle, aileron, elevator affair.  The mixer sorts out the shared elevator and rudder combo on the rear fins for me.  That side of things seemed to work fine I think.

OK thanks.I bought a Turnigy mixer from Hobbyking that didn`t work,so I`ve ordered a different brand elsewhere .
Hoping that`ll get me going.

I got mine on eBay for a couple of pounds.  I think I searched for 'v tail mixer'.

I just couldn't see how to do it on the menus.  I could see the elevon options for flying wings, but not a v tail option.  I have seen elsewhere that the Storm does do it, but I was at a loss how.

At a push, could the mini talon be set up without a rudder?  So use the two tail servos like twin elevators only, and fly it aileron/elevator only (like a wing)?  I can't see the rudder authority being that good on a model with a very short coupled v tail...

That's interesting to note.  I've not flown mine yet, still got a cam mount to 3d print, and a vector to set up.

I am finding I use the rudder more and more, especially when flying in tandem behind someone else.  The rudder makes it so much easier to keep the target plane in the centre of frame.  Also on a plane like the Skywalker, I use the rudder to keep the tail up in the turns.  Lining up with the runway is also easier with the rudder.
Not experienced enough with the talon just yet, but I suspect I will be using the rudder quite a bit.
