I'm using a Turnigy 2836 1250kv with a 9x6 on my Skywalker and it goes well - I imagine that combo on the tiny Talon will be a blast.

FPVSteve

Well I maidened mine on 3s as it was all I had charged and it was still pretty quick with an 8x5 prop on the NTM1400 ... the airframe doesn't seem to have much drag.

Antkol

I may have to have a rethink after your burnout as I am flying the NTM 1400kv with a 8x6 prop.  Tend not to pull anymore than 25amps at any one time and usually cruise at about 7amps.
Will have to experiment with some different props as flames coming out the back is probably not a good thing.
Thanks for the heads up Coyote.

To be fair to these motors, here's the data from HobbyKing:

Prop Test Data:
8x4 - 11.1V / 266W / 24A/ 1.02kg thrust
8x4  - 14.8V / 560W / 38A / 1.48kg thrust

So us running an 8x5 is going to be more than 40A at WOT on 4s, it's max current is 45A...

I like the idea of the motor having an aerodynamic screen around the motor but it does nothing for cooling, next build will have M3 captive nuts for the motor mount and cooling slots in the motor mount, no big deal but it will help.
After running my Talon for a number of flights it obvious it's not going to last like a Z3 or Drak, snapped the tail skid off on my second flight  so that needs addressing as well.
Stuck by the pool at the mo in 38degs heat watching hotties in bikinis wandering past wishing I was flying (not! :overexcited:) off for a beer.

I reckon a Talon would get to those mountains in the back ground  ;)

Tis a good point.   Probably trying to squeeze more electrons through it than it can comfortably cope with.   I think I'll go down the sunnysky option too.

I noticed that the pic was not of any hotties by the pool.  Guessing the wife would not approve.

Lucky your weren't caught downwind.

I was lucky, in more ways than one. On the maiden I flew 2k out to sea over the wind farms so if it had happened there .............
Education and schoolin is good, but FPV is gooder :)

Anyone else think the motor angle is off?  If I trim it with the motor off it climbs for the sky when I put the motor on.

Mine was fine once trimmed up.

Not had a problem with the motor only the esc, which was solved by mounting externally for cooling, I went with the Sunsky motor and it runs cool upto 25amp plus, no issues with it yet but would have liked better air flow for those hot day we keep getting lol.

Yes. I had to put some washers under mine. Think the motor is angled down a little so put thin washers under the top two mounts.
Still flying up my own arse ....

My mini talon is now 1500mm wingspan... just sayin ;)

Then you will need a new thread for your 'midi talon'...... :P :P

Coyote

It's an odd move imo with the wing extensions. Why you would need more efficiency from a plane that can do a 60km round trip on an 8 amp lipo ? It's not as if it's glide is poor.
