LOL snooze, it's not too frightning..
Its just that if the COG is right, there's less chance of the maiden resulting in a massive uncontrollable loop that ends with the plane buried in the back of your head...
:P

Is there such a thing as a "small" one?
FPV - The unusual hobby of flying £££'s miles away from you in the hope you see it again.

Found snowy the snowman in Tescos for 50p, and thought he would make a dashing pilot figure...

Then decided that was prolly a bit silly...
So I chopped off his head, stuck a wooden spike up his bum, and turned him into a motor-mount...

Then bunged on a 120 Watt motor on a bit of 1/8 ply, stuck some 9g servos in with glass tape & POR, and cobbled up some links with a bit of wire and my fave thing - Z bend pliers...

God knows if it will fly...
Why the F am I doing this????
:D

SnoozeDoggyDog

Very funny DW. Turned him into a motor mount. Bravo!

I bet you this flies like an absolute peach :)

TWOP TWIP:
Taper the trailing edges to nothing to reduce drag on the trailing edge of the wings, or it'll be slower than a snail with two broken legs. Just sand them down :)

TWOP TWIP #2:
Add a propeller for additional thrust.  ;D

Dillwhacker

Cheers Steve, it will be interesting to see...
Good tip about the trailing edges - I had only thought about the LE's to be honest. Do you think it's worth doing that on my Hornet as well - that's got great big fat TE's?
And yes, a prop will be added, also an ESC and a receiver  :)

TryingTo

Dillwhacker this is awesome! Very clean scratch build! :) Thanks for posting the dimensions, I think il try and attempt this myself :) Really looking forward to seeing the maiden :)

Dillwhacker

Cheers Trying.
I just printed the photo, then measured the wingspan on the paper and scaled everything to that, so for example, the nose width is 0.083 of the wingspan etc. Then scaled them all up to the wingspan I wanted.
Haven't done much more....been too busy flying in this lovely winter sunshine.
Thinking about a colour scheme, and really liking this....

Just need an artist,.
And some paint brushes.
And paint.
:D

Just scraps this week...
Smoothed and toughened the leading edges with glass tape..

The underside of the fus seemed weak and flat, so I added a landing-skid thingy, and a layer of glass tape..

Then randomly cut some random shaped fins to glue at a random place on the wings...

Does anyone here seriously think this will fly?
:o

beesleyboy

You have inspired me bud, thought I may as well make a mini one, i'm going to laser the parts out of Depron.
its going to have a wing span of 600mm.
the render looks a bit blocky, but I will sand all the carves in after its together.

Oohh that looks good  :)
Laser cut from Depron..LOL I hacked mine out of foamboard with a rusty scalpel and a bent ruler...
Note to self: Get with the program Dill...
The real Drak's nose is too thin for a camera at this scale - that's why I made mine fat (and ugly)....
Enjoy a scratch build  :P
