Hi Andy

We're still testing the PJ's and the setups to get a good measure of them before we start racing, we're hitting barriers like the little cams not being detailed enough (might try refocusing mine) for low flying and with the fpv gear up front its tricky to get a decent cofg... I'm having to add lead to the back of mine.

Prolly going to be a week or so before we have the first unofficial race/test day.

There is of course the unlimited class but not sure what the other guys have for that (interms of racers).

I like the idea of having a few race weekends through the summer, there will be circuit racing and time trials but also none speed challenges like duration comps, bomb drop challenge, commando course etc... you get the idea.

should be fun :)

Yep!  I would definitely have a go in the unlimited class just for fun  :)

I hope we will be in Devon this summer so might be able to make it down to West Cornwall for the day.

My wing goes OK though cornering is probably not up to pylon racer standards, but I would be embarassed to be beaten by an EasyStar lets say :o

I found since moving to a wide angle lens that its much more difficult to figure out how high you are close to the ground.  I suppose the alternative is a narrow view lens and a good spotter to tell you where to go!

regards
Andy

If you do get down this way Andy, give me a shout, I would meet up, even if there's no raising happening, its always good to meet up and have a fly
I will be happy if I get round the course in one piece.
hopefully there will be lots of spotters to pick up the peaces.

Well I hope you're all going to report all the "near misses" to the CAA like good children :)

Yeah i reported Pasty for almost hitting me with his plane last week, for some reason they were not interested?!

Pasty

what... you mean they may have better things to do?!.... surely not...

FPV Matt

Thanks for the info/encouragement, Gordon/Steve/Gary! Watching your testing with interest ;)

Sorry to hear about the burnt out Tx...never heard of that happen, so assumed it was the VTx. Have you been running it with the antenna collapsed for some time?

Glad 1s lipos are doing the trick. I'm considering breaking one of these:

http://robotbirds.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=63_351&products_id=4730

Nominal charged voltage is 3.3V, no fire hazard, lighter...we love 'em in the 50cc/100cc aircraft...

Re the Tx pinout- are you grounding the cathodes of your CP antennas (or the braid on the coax lead) to the nearest "GND" pad to the "ANT" pad?

Thanks!
Matt

Hi Matt

Those life packs look ideal.

we've ground the antenna to the metal case/heatshield thing, saves farting about with soldering to small pads.

No mate, its a long story but the end result was polorised power cables that let out a lot of magic smoke when plugged in.

to cut a long story short he plugged it in the wrong way around ;)

Yeah cept i have swapped over cables for a transmitter that had the wires the wrong way round... then used that battery in the one that went pop!

FPV Matt

Aye, the LiFePo4 are great; that's what I'll be using.

D'oh Gary! We've all done something similar...damn electrickery ;p Any chance you're breaking for spares?
:)

Good call on the cathode...I guess any ground works. I think I need a smaller soldering iron...these 5.8TXs are teeny-tiny in the flesh!!
