Nearly there mate,
Is the threaded bar nice and tight in the ball link connectors,??
I've had buggers turn on me, not with ball link connectors though but with metal clevises

Hi Simon, the threaded bar is CA`d into the plastic connectors Simon, thick CA and kicker was used. The reason was that from other builds, the X8 only need a tiny amount to no reflex at all, and very small travel on the servos. This meant I could set the length of the rods and permanently attach them because even on the lowest point on the horns I have huge amounts of travel still, so I can sub trim any reflex I need without loosing out

In my video you could see the gap between the two vents in the nose section.




That was not a cutting error, the top half of the fuse has a section molded out so that had to be addressed later............

A piece of depron glued and sanded into shape and looking much better / stronger :)

What I can't get hold of for love or money was a prop saver. With the maiden in a matter of days I had to cook something up.

My solution was as easy as it gets really, an old main gear from a co axial heli :-) I took the bearing out, drilled the hole to fit the motor shaft and put it on



With the holes in it the air will pass through fine, might even make a cool sound to boot lol

With the props folded its diameter was near enough perfect :-)

Update so far, a few flights done now.

My motor findings so far :

Turnigy Aerodrive SK3 - 3542-1000kv

It had loads of power, launches were easy on a 13" prop, but into wind 14 amps was only giving 25kmh ground speed which was too low and not with full payload

Next motor was

Overlander 4260-500kv

I used this yesterday and it launched with a good chuck on WOT ok, and cruise was 6 amp at 40kmh but a much better 70kmh at 10 amps so cruise was great, but fully loaded with lipo`s I think its going to struggle hand launching.

New motor turned up today

Turnigy Aerodrive SK3 - 4240-530kv

I have been recommended to try 14 and 15" x 10-12 pitch on this and that should "in theory" be the best bet. So the next flight will be on this, see if it performs. One worry is two reviews state it does not play well with a Turnigy Plush ESC, I hope it does because that is what I have

I have just weighed the X8 with all lipo`s on board now I have them, she comes in at 4.95kg  :o

Have you any idea how long your flight times are likely to be? Should be good for more than an hour... no?

With two lipo`s just under 2 hrs flight time, if I can keep cruise amps down with different prop combos to near 6-7 amps with 4 lipos, then 3 hrs +

That's immense, at what cruising speed?

Adv speed at cruise was 45kmh

so good for 50 km (30 miles) out. I was hoping for about 5 miles with mine!  Not sure if following it in a car would qualify as Line of Sight tho?

Ian, any chance flying that new motor and prop combo? What do you recommend now?
