I put the new motor on a few days back, but static tests were disappointing at best. No combo really had enough thrust to hand launch the wing, not even close. My next combo will be the Overlander motor with a 16x8 prop which Pasty has said looks on paper to be even better than the 16x10

Sounds like thats not an easy one to find a good combo for. Let me know how you get on with the Overlander and the new prop config.

There`s plenty that work fine, I`m just trying to really fine tune it so I get the best flight times I can for weight. If you can live with less the SK 3542 - 1000kv was great for general flying

With "less" I take it you mean flight time?

Well it will cruise at a reasonable current with 2x 5000`s on board, but has much more thrust for hand launching

Hmm... trading off flight time for an easy hand launch.... Tricky this one. What prop did you use for the 1000kv motor?

13x7 gave me the most thrust

Yes for all the tests so far 2x 5000 4S have been on board

Coyote, I have just started building my shiny new BLACK X8 and am trying to fix the camera positions so would like to know what attitude the X8 flies at. At normal cruise speed is there any noticeable nose high attitude? Is there a reference line that you would say was roughly horizontal?

Hi Mick, it flies fairly horizontal, that much I had to drop the steep angle I had the camera at in the build because all I was seeing was the floor. Its pretty much horizontal

Have you thought about a variable pitch prop? Maybe too much hassle but thought I'd throw it out there.... these things do exist for model planes!

And in fact you could perhaps even make one out of a RC heli tail hub, since that is effectively just a variable pitch prop... A t-rex 700 tail hub and slider might be big enough to make a start. If you can see amp draw in real time it should be fairly easy to figure out a speed/power/pitch relationship.

Potentially this would give you brilliant endurance and the thrust for better launches.

i had a look at these - unfortunately I've only found low power versions for shockies.
Anyone found some bigger assemblies?
