Thats looking awesome now coyote. i see five battery straps.. Are you putting 5 5800mah zippys in there? or is it just to be able to space the batteries out differently?

Its for a 2 or 4 battery combination, the furthest forward battery strap will be getting removed soon once I start the inside

Lol I was thinking the same :D I'm so impatient, if it takes more than a weekend to build and laminate I start getting twitchy!

There has been more progress, now we have hit the X8 with its first colours :)

Sticking with its original Blue Red White scheme, but done a bit differently

First masked up, then red metallic went on the left wing first :



Then the blue metallic, then the tape was removed and there you go :)



Looking sharp so far if I do say so myself lol

A trial fit on the plane if you please .....................





Next the body gets the same treatment so the colours just don`t end sharp at the end of the wings



The lids has been done as well.

The wings have now had their first two gloss varnish coats on, the rest to do tomorrow

I am currently confused to hell regarding what motor to go for, stick with the Scorpion SII 3020 - 1100kv with a 10x6 and a 10 amp cruise, but its a worryingly low speed near a stall, or look at other options.

On DIYDrones I read this :

Right now we're using:

OS OMA-3825-750 on all of our X8's. 750 kv

APC 12x8 fixed electric prop (never breaks on landing, folding props drew 40% more current in a cruise)

Thunderpower 25C 5400 4cell (x2)

Our wings are heavy. about 9lbs or 4kg, they have 3 power systems, 1watt fpv, Canon EOS M with roll stabilized mount.

We cruise at 15 m/s at an average current draw of 8 amps. Full throttle seems to give unlimited vertical, only use that right off the launcher.

We usually fly for about 1 hour and land with 20% or more reserve batt.

If this info is correct, then this seems almost to good to be true, he is at 9lbs weight with all his extra gear, mine would be at 10lbs carrying an extra 2x 5800mah so an extra 12 amps.

If this is correct I will have a faster cruise, 2 hours flight time so in ideal circumstances 60km out and back of flight range

Front and rear power cables in, ESC fitted, front and back plates now fixed in.

On your motor choice, the 1100kv seems too high for such a heavy plane like that, 10x6 for a 4.5kg plane just doesn't seem right.

The O.S motors are awesome and well priced, so I'd go for the recommendation on the 750 and a bigger prop. Should be able to go up to a 14incher if you need be, most efficient is swinging a big prop slowly, so you might find you are able to get much more efficiency with that set up.

I have to agree, your motor/prop combo is comparable to the setup I had on my original maxi swift (which I'd guess is a lot lighter) and it wasn't exactly a power house!
