A new Quad frame is on the way. Doing some preliminary tests now.

Is that the 'Hovership' from Thingiverse?

Andrew

no it's not as the hovership has different components. I didn't like the way the arms fixed on the hovership, they looked a little weak and I wanted to strengthen up my own design too.

My new design does use ideas from the hovership and the blackout, such as multiple bottom plates and swivelling arms and similar motor fixing holes for the motors but I'm also incorporating ideas from the original k-quad such as the KK2 mount which will be revised to handle more flight board types using slots rather than holes, the same 3 piece base plate idea that is used in more recent k-quads.

It'll be ready soon.

Some pictures of my K-Quad now the motors and ESC's have returned from their holidays in Thailand, thanks Andrew.

Turned out a bit on the porky side at 468g fully charged, but with the 5 x 3 two blade props (Gemfans?) one thing it does NOT lack is get up and go.
So much in fact that it got up and bu&&ered off into the trees last week.
Result of the ensuing 20 foot dead drop onto grass was one broken arm, black, and a camera bracket that looked like it had been in a car crash.
I my defence it was almost dark, about 30 yards away and I was having a damn good hoon around ;D
Quick repair however, thin super glue and a few inches of carbon tow, good as new.

Finally got the camera and video Tx connected together so next will durability testing while learning to fly FPV.
I think it might be a good thing I'm building a 3D printer as I see an extensive spares requirement in my immediate future :+

Using 10A Turnigy Plush ESC's http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4204 these fit neatly under the top plate two at each end.
Turnigy 2211 2300kv motors http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8140
Turnigy Nano tech 1300mAh 3 cell pack.
Hobby King KK2.1 flight controller, currently running Steveis V1.11S2 firmware http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2065583 but will try V1.17S1Pro sometime soon http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2144803
Also a good instruction and setup manual by Steveis http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showatt.php?attachmentid=6674228&d=1397254268

Another little teaser for the new frame showing the Flight controller mounting board with and without the top central plate.

Finally got the black and gold K-Quad that I'm building for one of the guys at our local heli club finished...... Just got to solder the 2 led headlight on the black / red wires at the front and fit some props and it's test flight time.
Same power setup as the retrofit to my green and black one, RCX 1804/2400Kv motors with 10A SimonK firmware esc's & 3 Cell 1300mAh NanoTechs.
Did this one with the rx at the back as it's only going to be a line of sight flyer and doesn't need the space for a vtx, I think he's going to fit a keychain camera so as a relative lightweight it should go well!
Andrew.

Looking good Andrew!

I have ordered the all black Frame with the kk2 board recess.

I had to order the motors from HK euro (holland)
Opted for the turnigy 2211 2300kv and I will order the plush 10amps for the esc's

;-)

Sommie,

you've ordered the new V5 frame which is not the same as Andrews. Did you want the same as Andrew or go for the new frame? Heres a piccy of both. The V5 on the left and the V1-4 on the right.

The new V5 is more like the shape of the Blackout frame and will take a board camera as well as a bigger LiPo and Mobius but is heavier at 180g whereas the V1-4 is 100g.

I'm working on reducing the weight of the V5 for future versions by swapping out the M3 bolts for nylon spacers again similar to the blackout.

This is a "don't do it like this" post.  krikey very kindly gave me his new v5 frame to try, and I quickly ripped the bits off the old k-quad and stuff them on here.  This isn't really the way to go - I should be changing cable lengths in order to use the bottom shelf for escs (maybe) and perhaps middle for power.

The other thing I'd suggest against is putting a bloody great 2200 3s on there because you don't have any smaller 3s lips and thought you'd just shove anything on there :)

Despite all of that, it flew - a little impromptu video in the garden, as filmed by Sophie on my iPhone (with her thumb in shot as a bonus)

Hi Neil, can you knock me up a black V5 please bud, I can`t resist anymore, got to give this a go :)

I have just ordered the KK2, 10 amp Turnigy ESC`s, I have all the rest apart from the motors and props. I am slightly put off the Turnigy`s after Wayne s issues.

What are the recommendations from you guys now for motor / prop combos for decent agility / flight times ?
Education and schoolin is good, but FPV is gooder :)

CurryKitten

Don't know yet, but the K in that config will take a 5" prop at a max (but the arms can swing out further).  I think you want perhaps a 1000-1500 3s, but I'm not sure yet, which will probably be good for 6ish  minutes.

Basically I need to get a bunch of lips and mess about

Sommie1974

Looks great curry!
Mine should hopefully be at home when I get bk.

I am using the turnigy motors. I will see what they are like and if they're no good I will order the rcx motors. Is there much difference?

Thanks

Coyote

I`ll try those 1804`s, ordered from Bangood, they were the only ones with CW and CCW in stock
