As some of you know, I use to design and build bits and bobs and as fare as I know, one of the first H shape quad's that eventually evolved into the Gecko Quad, well I ended up buying a second hand Inspire 1 and hopefully will get a Mavic Pro as soon as I have saved the cash and there is someone that actually stocks them. lol.
Any way, Mi brother has always wanted the Gecko, so he had that, - my Naza controller and some second hand Inspire 1 motors that i got of ebay, so I thought it was time to get the thinking cap on, and make something new, I decided to go down the folding arm design, and it was about time someone got some inspiration from the Chines for a change, so as you can see, the legs are going to fold similar to the Mavic.
I haven't finished designing it yet, but its starting to look like a plan.
I'm looking at running it on  6 cell 5600mah battery.

That looks AWESOME tbh !

If you need good gimbal results I suggest TINY2 as you can mount forward this little gimbal and it's simply best.

Looks really good, nice work

Yeah I would go 6S, overpowered quad fly a lot better, having more power is always nice :)
Side frame would be nice when done from 4mm carbon, carbon tubes and some 3d printed parts for folding arms + motor mounts inc legs.

Thanks guy's, yes It's going to be 3D printed in ABS with carbon fiber arms, I have gone with a 6cell setups because I have Inspire motors and props for it and the footprint is roughly the same size as my Inspire and that runs 6cell,  I have already printed the motor mounts, but I'm still designing the shoulder joints. The only reason I'm using a 3axis gimbal, is that before I got my Inspire, I was going to make a inspire clone, so I bought an FY mini 3D gimbal, it's a shame, because a 2axis would probably be better now, but I guess this one will give me more scope.

Wow, that looks fantastic. A world away from 12x12 pine :)

Amazing job so far Gordon...cant wait to see the end result.
It's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense...

beesleyboy

Thanks guy's, it is Steve, it's great to be able to build the hole thing with a 3D printer and not need the CNC,  people are more likely to have a printer at home. I'm re printing the back frame sides,  to run the back motor wires through,  so thay won't interfere with the battery.

This is brilliant - loving it.  Keep up the good work  :gotit:

Amazing JOB, that design is well ....DAMN !

Coyote

This is very nice Gordon. Will you be putting the files up on Thingiverse?
Education and schoolin is good, but FPV is gooder :)

beesleyboy

Thanks guy's, maybe Ian, I haven't put anything on there yet, I will see how successful it terns out, I will need to change the motor mounts, to something more standard, I've made special one's on this to fit some inspire 1 motors that I pick up cheap on eBay.
These picks show how the Esc fit in.
