I just used some TDK ferrite clamps.

One on each line.

Well today I got sick of my Taranis humming/buzzing at me through the larger speaker mod I did a few weeks back, the noise on my system is due to rf output from the 2.4 antenna & especially from the ezuhf on the back of the tx being picked up by the mod'd speaker

So I went to town with the copper tape, I stuck it all over & tabbed the two case halves so to get a contact between them, I then cut off the charge LED wires on the back, I did this as I now use a lipo so the nimh charge circuit is redundant. I removed the v+ from the plug & soldered the negative to the copper tape, I then went over all the different panels of copper linking them with a blob of solder as the adhesive on the rear of the copper tape insulates one piece from another.

I also added some clear tape over the back of the speaker with air holes so the speaker can move & added some more copper tape to that - keeping the holes clear, I then soldered that to the rest. I then added a bit of thick foam to deaden the sound from the speaker as it was too tinny - it sounds so much better now!!

So after all of this my tx is totally silent when using the internal 2.4 module & with the UHF the noise can hardly be heard - it's 99% gone!!

Plus it now sounds soooo much better than before too.

Try the ferrites - see if you can get rid of that last 1% ;)

Funny that you don't get continuity through the tape adhesive - whenever I've used copper tape it has always had continuity between layers.

Yeah think I got a few ferrites knocking about, will try.

As I was testing the tape I'd get intermittent reading on it, just not good enough as it was, think the glue on this stuff is pretty thick, just seemed a bit inconsistent so thought I'd help it with some solder

I had hoped to see the long range LR12 rx available for the Taranis by now.  I've googled and generally searched round the web but can't find any indication of when and if  it will be released.   I'm wondering whether it was just a bit of hype by frsky to boost interest & sales ! .....   I've never tried UHF, but the plug in module from immersion looks like an alternative.  Does anyone have any info on the LR12 ?

I asked Allen & Eva from frsky about it.  They where hoping to have it out already - but been completely swamped with ordered for Taranis.

They have had to move to a new factory to keep up with demand!

I am sure it will be around at some point.

Now.. on the thoughts of the LR12 receivers.

Technically.. how do you do this off the same transmitters, and the same general hardware.

1. You drop telemetry. 
2. You improve the sensitivity of the rx
3. You put a better antenna on the rx
4. You probably modify the protocol to run at a higher latency.

Anything else?

Seems to me that much of this can be done already!

Just get a V8R-II receiver.  Bind it to the Taranis, and put dome decent antennas on it.

Yes.. you dont get protocol advantages.. but you will get the benifit of good antennas, and no requirement to receive telemetry back - improving end range.

Hi, looking into buying a Taranis but i have a few questions.
I have the frsky djt telemetry module and the frsky d8r-ii plus rx.

Should i buy the taranis + x8r combo or will the d8r-ii plus and djt module be fine?

I would like rssi on the taranis screen without any mods.

Can i achieve that with the d8r-ii plus?

What type of other telemetry info can i recieve without any mods with the d8r-ii plus and the x8r?

One thing to note is the Taranis has it's own internal TX, so you don't need the dot module at all, just rebind your d8r-ii+ to your Taranis.  You can then get RSSI value on screen, or if you are FPVing you can also have them spoken to you.

You can't get much other telemetry down from you model without adding more telemetry sensors on board.  The d8r-ii+ has a few sensor inputs, but you still need some extra bits before you plug into it

Thanks for the reply. I would like to use the djt telemetry external module so i can use an 5db antenna. I know you can do a mod to remove the internal antenna to make it adaptable so you can use any antenna but i would like to go down this road for now without any internal mods.

So would djt module plus d8r-ii plus give me rssi on screen without any mods?
How about lipo voltage?

What would you say that the x8r has more then the d8r-ii plus?
I'm just trying to see if it would compensate to buy the taranis + x8r combo for future mods.

PS: I'm using the APM 2.6 can i buy any plug and play hardware to get gps cord, flight mode, distance from home, throttle %, etc... on the taranis screen?
I already get that info on my minimosd but would like it to be audible on my taranis?

Can you point me to the right forum post or info about this? I don't mind reading :)

How far are you looking to go that you want to the 5db antenna for - I flew out to 2.5km on the standard Taranis antenna without any RSSI warning (but I had to turn as lipo didn't have enough left !)

The x8r can handle more channels 16, and also has a dedicated RSSI port, and I think you can connect the "new" telemetry sensors to it.

Reason I ask is that I *think*, but not sure that if you lose the module then you don't get the telemetry.  I'm not 100% sure because I haven't tried it, but the telemetry date comes form the data port on the back of the module - what connects to the Taranis is just PPM out, 5v and ground... and that's going to the module, it's not reading back.  I my educated guess is you;ll just get probably he normal module beeps.

FrSky has it's own protocol it speaks, so although the APM has that data, you can't simply take this in any form that the Tarnis would understand.  Skyscraper did some work to package up APM data into FrSky format and send it down the wire - but only to decode on the other side for his tracker.  You *probably* could write your own conversion stuff, but you'll need some processor on your plane to rewrite APM stuff into FrSky and send it down... that's not trivial stuff.

openrcforums is the place for many sorts of OpenTX questions, rob.thomson (on this forum) had some input on the Taranis, so will know quite a bit about it.

And some other points to the x8r
- The RX has Smart-Port for Telemetry. Old sensors have to be connected by the hub. Or use the openXSensor.
- X8R has no A1 or A2. Both are fix connected to rssi or RX-VCC. There exist a hardware-mod to use A1...
- If APM supports SBUS, you can connect X8R directly and you have from 9-16 on the plugs. So, fully use of all 16 Channels

When sending with external TX-Module, the telemetry will be received by this module too. As described earlier, the external module is only connected by the cppm. There is no way back for external telemetry - exept you do a HW-Mod. The internal Module is a "common" XJT-TX. It should be possible to access the telemetry-pins... But this is a real hard way, because you then use external sender, but internal telemetry. The hack for this will not be easy. What you can do, is connect a telemetry-Screen to your external module.

My recommendation: Gain some experiance first with standard-taranis (internal module and x8r). You then will see, what you really need and upgrade there. Doing all this add on stuff "only" for a 5dB antenna? You end up with a lot of questions and never ending small projects. If you fly long range, then you will need not only another antenna...
