For those wanting some sensible endurance stats, I didn't break any personal records or anything yesterday, even for this airframe, but the wind was calm enough to get some good stats.

My setup yesterday was as follows:

2x 3300Mah 4S Nano-techs in parallel, reasonably well looked after
9x6 APC-e prop
1250Kv 35mm SK3 motor
AUW 2000g
Outside temperature: 4 degrees celsius

Out to 7.3Km and back in 14m using 2839Mah.
Total flight time after the out and back plus a bit of formation flying with Brucey was 27 minutes, 5474Mah consumed and 29.5 Km flown.

Think I'll order some of the digitals for mine then. Is a 60A (80A burst) ESC enough? Or do I really need an 80A? Was looking at this -

I only use analogue because they're reported to emit less RF noise.

You'd get away with a 60A ESC so long as you retro-fit a PC northbridge heatsink to it, TBH I'd still do that with an 80A ESC (and have done on mine).

This guy on eBay sells heatsinks of various sizes which I've used on ESC and VTX kit.

Cheers Neil, I've got access to heatsinks that I can use so thats no bother. I'll probably just go with 80A to give some more headroom anyway, I'm trying not to scrimp on this build!

Interesting stats and probably a similar setup to what I will be using (2x 4S 3000mah). My batteries are cheap Zippys though so hopefully they will be up to the job! Been fine on my quad so hopefully in parallel they will be ok.

Yeah, there's not much in it weight wise between a 60 and an 80 anyway.

On the battery-front, Brucey uses Zippys in his and up to the point where he rammed one into a goalpost at 100MPH they looked in perfect nick.

I'm still trying to fathom a strange patch of interference in the middle of nowhere about 5Km from where I launch from, it disappears when I fly through it yet my helical is still pointing in the same direction i.e. i am the other side of the patch of interference. I'm going to try a different channel next time.

I think I've used that SKU of ESC before and it worked OK, the low voltage cutoff's a bit girly though so I'd disable that feature.

Standard size BMS servos I've not used but I have used the mini servos and they seemed decent enough, personally though my choice would be a Hitec servo and JP energ pro ESC.

Remember you should be using a separate BEC, something like a turnigy 5A low noise.

I was looking at those ESC's but it looked like they have a load of heli specific features, I take it they will still work ok on a fixed wing motor?

I have the Turnigy BEC to use as well already.

Ok, Hitec HS635's ordered, and I just went for the Turnigy 85A ESC.

I'll probably go for the CAM Carbon 9x6 prop that I used on the skywalker. Solid quality and had a great amount of thrust on the 860kv or so motor I had on that, so on 1200kv it will be mental I imagine! :D

The APC or the CAM will be just fine, I've used both in fact and it's hard to tell the difference. I only use the APC because Brucey does, and I only need to be as fast as him.  ;)

What have people been doing for the front hatch to cover the cameras ? Mine was also missing the slot for the top hatch to lay onto, but not to worry. Few ideas on front hatches would be appreciated though.

What box did you go for Mobius or GoPro?

On my GoPro version I obviously only need to cover the board cam, as the GoPro fits in the space for the HD cam, with a few sheets of foam to support the back.

I printed a little cover for the board cam:



It wasn't the most complicated part I produced but is light and does the job, photographing it is the hardest thing:




If anyone wants one I can do white, black or orange.

Perfect, could I get one in Orange please ? I've got the GoPro box too. Is it possible to get it so it covers both cameras ?
